August 23rd, 2010Hi everyone!! Wow where did August go? Before you know it September will be here and all the little kiddos will be back in school and fall will be on its way. (Not soon enough for me being in Florida :)) Well here is what you came for…to get a look at the new releases and let me tell you they have outdone themselves this week!! So many amazing designers here at Elemental Scraps and every week they really show just how great they are!

August Designer Challenge
August 22nd, 2010Hi everyone, Jessica Edwards here with a new challenge!
This week I chose to “hopefully” teach you something as well as have some fun!
The challenge is to create a layout that uses photos that you have selectively colored. Selective coloring means that the photograph is black and white but an item or items are selectively colored. It’s a great way to put an emphasis on something special. A favorite shirt, sunglasses, eyes, a flower, anything that might otherwise get overlooked in a regular color photo.
There are a couple ways to do this.
The easiest way for me is to take a color photo, duplicate the layer and turn the top layer to black and white. Then you simply erase the part you want colored. The bottom colored layer will show through and you have color. (Sometimes you have to play with the saturation and hue to get the color to really pop.) Just merge your layers and you are done!
The other way is to turn your photo into black and white and use the color replacement tool and paint the color of your choice in the area you want colored.
I hope I haven’t confused you yet!
Here is a layout I made using selective coloring for the photos.
When you are all done, upload your layout to the ES gallery and leave a comment here with your link to the gallery. You have until August 31, 2010 to complete the challenge! Everyone who completes the challenge will win a special gift from me!
